The main advantage of the 2200 is that inks are significantly more light stable than 1280 inks...probably less than ten years for the 1280 vs. 90 years for the 2200 on the fine art matte papers that you would like to print on. I believe that Epson claims that the gamut is about the same. Blacks will be better with 1280 on matte papers. The other major advantage of the 2200 is variable droplet technology...this is what makes toned BW possible without quad inks...but it remains to be seen how the print quality compares to a MIS VM/Roark option. I think you are wise to wait until more of the details emerge, however. A cracked chip, CIS and 3rd party ultrachromes certainly would be helpful.
