Personally, I don't like BBSes, because the messages only exist on the server. I prefer mailing lists, because I can then save a message for future reference on my own machine by simply not deleting it. Also, the traffic is fed at me--the various BBSes I'm subscribed to I rarely visit unless I have some particular question of my own, so I never contribute answers to them.
