One advantage of b) is that if you ever have to send it for repair or return, or swap it in an upgrade plan, you can put those carts back in and not have to go buy a set. Paul Roark recommends using water to clean off any ink residue on the bottom of the poppet valve before storing to ensure it doesn't dry and clog.
