The 1st row should begin about 3 inches from the leading edge. The target can be printed in b/w. I usually create 2 of these target sleds, so I can be loading 1 up while the 2nd one is printing. I attach the individual blanks directly over the imprinted target and adhere with Avery round stickers that are placed over the spindle hole and pressed down to stick to the matte board. Once all of the discs are in place I slide the sled into the front loading opening of the 3800. For print settings I use Archival Matte, 1400dpi and a -24% ink load with a -70 ink dry setting. I try to use the HP printable disc brand. It has the best surface for the matte K1 ink on the 3800. I get those from Fry's @ $24.00 per hundred. Because I use 3rd party ink the ink cost per disc is less than $0.5 ea. Print time per sled is about 6 mins. I created a custom profile by placing the discs in such a way as to cover the enitre profile target and read the squares individually to create the full icc profile. Match to the soft proof is pretty good. I found that the 3800 is very well suited for running the discs compared to any other printer that I've tried. This is about the best all around production disc printing set-up that I've come across because low ink cost. However the 3800 is also too good of a dedicated b/w printer that I have it do the double duty and do the inkset switch when I need to run the discs. I only do the discs about once a month so I can't really justify getting a 2nd printer.
