Hi all, I am planing a project that need cheap way of mounting. 80-100 22 by 30 Arches watercolor paper. Eboni prints. 25 usd max per print... cant afford to frame. As much as possible archival or easily removed. Else it defeats the purpose of putting effort in 100% carbon printing! Thanks in advance!!

For a student show in my area we're going to buy clip frames, put appropriate paper over the plastic back, float the art over the paper, and use spacers (or not). I'm not sure how it will work out, but we're going to give it a try. Paul www.PaulRoark.com --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "chen.benedict" <benedictchen22@...> wrote:

Try Craig Frames, Art2Frames, Displays2Go and WholesalePosterframes.com The latter has aluminum frames for $24 that size. They are really poster frames with only 1/2" to 9/32." No backing or glazing at that price--use foam core. Seth

An inexpensive way would be to use foamboard cut to size and binder clips. Attach the top of the print to the footboard with two clips. The 'handles' can also be use for hanging (with push pins). You can even get acid free foamboard, but it is removable in any case. If this style fits the 'mood' of the venue it works well. Looking at sizes on the Dick Blick site it looks like you might need to get buy a larger size and trim it to 22x30. Even the more expensive stuff (example: Elmers Acid Free) is less than $7 per board at regular Blick prices and there seems to be a 25% off sale for the amount you say you need (and free shipping). Just my $0.02 Kerry

I also need to find an inexpensive way to mount 16x20 prints. I have not done it before. I wonder if Paul could explain in excruciating detail where to buy the clip frames, what sort of paper to put on the back and how to use spacers? Also, I did not understand the reference to "footboard" in the description of the foamboard idea. Does it refer to the bottom of the frame? Wouldn't two binder clips at the bottom look strange? I have searched the net for a cheap way to get a professional looking presentation, but can't find anything for someone who isn't a woodworker. Geraldine

I have not used this company, but they have a variety of frames sizes that are cheap. They get good reviews on Amazon. Company ArtToFrames Amazon link is http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_home-garden?_encoding=UTF8&node=1055398&fi eld-brandtextbin=ArtToFrames Rene

Geraldine-- These are temporary prints you're doing? You don't want any archival framing, if I understand correctly?!?!? Seth

"footboard" is supposed to read "foamboard". That was a because spellcheck changed it and I did not catch it. Sorry for any confusion. With this method the prints are not 'framed' but they are on a firm backing. Usually two clips at just the top to clip the print to the foamboard and to serve as hangers. Likely too primitive in many cases but inexpensive. kb Sent from my iPhone On Mar 20, 2012, at 5:49 AM, "Geraldine l" <gpowell@...> wrote: > I also need to find an inexpensive way to mount 16x20 prints. You may want to check into Snap Frames.. We had an event at the Fairgrounds and this is what they used.. Ours were 24 x 36 and ran just a little over 30 bucks each as I recall. They wanted an inexpensive common look .. These came with a front lens to protect the print.. (not glass) .. You'll still need a piece of foam core .. They come in various sizes and are really cost effective and didn't look bad I thought.... but certainly not a high end frame The frame sides are extrusions.. and they snap together.. they came with a hanger too. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something that looked better that was more cost effective....... if you do please share it.. jimbo

Just Adding to the Mix: for 22*30 artwork Would go with Swiss corner clips + foam board and Mat board I did some numbers and Blick Roadshow 3-in-1 Display System is quite a good deal if bought for in more than 25 pieces... Save 10 bucks But the opening of the mat is 21.5*29 inches aspect ratio of 1.34 since I shoot 35mm the aspect of 1.5 I would have very ugly spaces in between darn. I guess I got to cut my own mat then. Is it difficult without expensive tools? @ Geraldine l I think you could mount on deep-cradle clayboard for 16*20 / 25usd +- http://www.ampersandart.com/tips/watercolor_without_glass.html

We have them here for ISO B formats, this one 50x70 cm. Anodised aluminium frame. I use it without the PVC foil protection. HP Matte Litho-Realistic paper + Vivera pigment and the print sprayed with a Talens acryl varnish that does not change the print appearence. Print vacuum mounted with 3M photo mount on museum board. Close to a year now and it still looks good. The idea was that if it did not last another image would replace it. So not really going for eternity but for the appeal of a bare matte surface without wasting an expensive rag paper. -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Ernst Shareware now: Dinkla Gallery Canvas Wrap Actions for Photoshop http://www.pigment-print.com/dinklacanvaswraps/index.htm | Dinkla Grafische Techniek | | www.pigment-print.com | | ( unvollendet ) |
