Mike,

With Mac OS X you can both connect to shared files on a PC, and share
files on the Mac that can be connected to from the PC. Here's an article
that should explain everything you need to know:

Jason,

Thanks, I have been messing with this since yesterday to no avail. BTW,
as a long time PC user I have to say that OS-X is a very nice intuitive
OS. It is actually easy and a lot of fun to work with.

Thanks again.

Hi Mike,

I have a G-4 with OS 9.2 networked with 2 PCs using a program called Dave on
the Mac and then it goes through a hub and Etherfast cable router. I'm no
guru by any means and my background is on PCs, I bought the Mac strictly for
Photoshop and have not upgraded to OS 10.

Jack,

I am sure that this will work just fine.

I tried the article that talks about using SMB in OS 10.1 (I have
10.1.3) and when I try to mount it as indicated I get an error message
that says no other machines are available or something like that.

I am determined and I WILL get this working. I have a full blown HP
W2000 domain server in my office with a 5 drive Raid system and 10
workstation all connected to the interned through a firewall and router
that I built. I know I can get this simple 2 machine network to talk.

Re: [Digital BW] Mac Gurus - need help with Mac/Pc network for B/W printing.

Mike,

I tried out both DAVE and PCMcLan when I first got the 7000. I settled on DAVE,
which I now use daily. I prefer it because it seems more solid, doesn't crash, has
a simple to use interface, and runs from the Mac. I only use the Windows box as
a print server, so am not inclined to buy software that only runs on it alone.
Dave worked right out of the box, and was a little cheaper. Bear in mind that
whichever app you go with will determine which machine you do the pushing and
pulling of files from.

I've been using DAVE for many months on OS 9 and now am running the OSX
version. There is currently an issue I'm trying to figure out where tiff's aren't
recognized as such once they are sent to the PC. This never happened with OS 9
and I'm trying to figure out if it's a DAVE problem or something with PhotoShop
7.0's method of saving out the tiff's, or perhaps a network issue...

Mike,

My mistake, I just discovered you CAN pull files from the PC using DAVE. The
Microsoft Windows Network recognizes the Mac's "Drop Box", which is in the
Public folder under your "Home." Just drop whatever file you want to send to
the PC there, locate to it from the PC and pull it over. It solved the problem
with tiff's not being recognized, too.

OSX is a truly fine operating system, welcome aboard...
