Piezo software -- switching to MIS FS inks

Piezo software -- switching to MIS FS inks

2002-05-10 by sdsmith9999

I've been gradually making the switch from analog to digital
printing, and have had fine results with Piezo software and Cone
inks -- except for the endless clogging and the price.

So I'm testing MIS FS inks ("refilled" virgin carts) with my 1160. I
get good tonal results using the Woolf workflow, but the dots are too
visible in the high end.

Using the piezo software I get blotched, muddy prints (these are
files that printed beautifully with Cone inks). Fiddling with gamma
doesn't help.

Any suggestions appreciated!

Stephan:

You could try the 1160 partitioned RGB workflow for the MIS FS inkset.

It's posted here at

Files> Ink Sets reviews and techniques> MIS FS> 1160 Partitioned
Workflow.

or on the MIS ( www.inksupply.com )Quad workflow pages

The partitioned workflow should yield dot free light tones from 0% to
about 30% (where the medium gray ink kicks in). It also often
eliminates the banding that some folks report with the Woolf lumped
RGB workflow in the dark end.

Thanks.

I get good results with one of Paul Roark's curves
(meant for the VM inks) with FS inks. Also, Jeff
Randall has a curve for FS inks you might want to try.
I, however, have not had good results with this
workflow - but I certainly could be doing something
wrong.

I get great results with the Piezo software and the MIS FS inks on my 1160.
Have you tried a slight curves adjustment in Photoshop? I generally adjust
my curve from 30 to 20 on one end, and 70 to 80 on the other. Your mileage
may vary. When I want it snappier I use the Woolf workflow. Haven't
noticed the dots.
