I currently own a 1200 and am considering PiezoTone cartridge system. Does the Cone system offer better resolution for 1280 than the 1200 and what are the drawbacks of converting 1200? Will the 2200 be the answer or should one own both the 2200 and the 1200 or 1280. I am a commercial shooter and just don't have the time to waste on inferior systems. Thanks in advance to anyone with advice. Michael Barley

I don't recommend the 1200 for any quad printing. It suffers from what some call banding, fine lines in the direction of the print head travel. Using both Piezo and MIS FS inks on my system and then viewing output from other 1200's (people who know how to print quads and keep their printers in proper working order), plus other user reports, leads me to believe it is just not a good epson for quads. This is just my opinion and that of friends who tried piezo on their 1200's. > Will the 2200 be the > answer or should one own both the 2200 and the 1200 or 1280. The 1200 works very well with the Roark VM inks and curves. I've been using one for about a year now. Occasionally there is very very fine microbanding, but it's cleared up with a quick head cleaning. The 1200 is, however, reputed to have the problems Carolyn mentions with the Piezo software; so if you go that route the 1280 is much better. The advantage of the 1200 is that the CIS doesn't need a chipped cartridge, and, of course, if you already own one, you don't need to buy a new printer (which was my reasoning). If I were buying a new printer to use for B&W, I'd undoubtedly choose a 1280 despite the higher cost. -- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., Carolyn Frayn <carolynfrayn@s...> wrote: > I don't recommend the 1200 for any quad printing. I would advise against converting your 1200 to Piezo. I did and it was not up to it, persistent banding. The 1280 is a better bet Mahesi
