What do you mean by nasty?

I haven't used the paper very much, way too expensive for the large
sizes for me, but I just used the neutral curve in paul's set, and the
print was excellent.

What printer are you on? I'm using 1280's for the hex inks.

Jerry

I'm assuming this paper is the same as Royal Plush, as that is the paper
I used. It is supposed to be the German Etching according to Media Street.

Hi Jerry,

I'm getting a very weak black with midtones that have an almost
solarized appearance. The worst is how the black has a defined 'edge'
where it meets a midtone, kind of like the effect one gets when trying
to make b&w prints on a color printer.

I wanted to try PhotoRag, but no one carries it locally, so gave
Etching a go instead.

Best, Jamie.

Jamie,

Something is wrong somewhere with your settings. Royal Plush/German
Etching makes beautiful prints with a quad black archival pigment
system, as well as archival color inks. Are you sure your print heads
are really clean, and your print heads properly aligned?

I also can get great black and white prints on my 1160 printer using MIS
Archival color inks. But you must have your printer and paper profiled
to get good prints.

Photo Rag and German etching are both Hahnemuhle papers and have the
same coating, so your prints would be the same.

Why not buy your papers on line, as they are MUCH less money than any
local store would have. Best source for papers is http://www.mediastreet.com

Best source for anything epson makes is: http://atlex.com

Good luck.

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

I have no problem getting great prints using EAM...it's just when I
try the German Etching that everything goes to hell in a handbag.

Best, Jamie.

Are you sure you're printing on the coated side of the paper?

Maybe you're using the wrong side of the paper, or maybe you got a batch
of bad paper. Believe me the VM inks print beautifully on this paper.

Jerry

I have tried the other side of the paper and am still getting bad
tonal seperation (especially the drop-off to pure black). I'll try
loading another set of carts next, as the current ones are low and
might be a source of problem.

I'm not going to let this paper beat me, damn it! ;-)

Best, Jamie.
