customer support polaroid

2002-08-12 by Jon Zax

In light of the recent tirades over the customer service, or lack there
of, and Nikon I wish to report
a recent experience that might sway people into the purchase of a
Polaroid scanner.

I have a SS4000 that has served me very well for several years and the
other day in the middle of a scanning session
it failed to recognize the film holder and when I restarted it ,would
not come out of initialization.

I called Polaroid tech support, they answered promptly and when I
explained what was happening,
the tech knew of the symptoms and took my address and said they had
designed a special little brush that would
fix the problem.

Three days later, the brush is delivered to me, free of charge, ( the
tech didn't even ask when I bought my scanner or anything)
I followed the very clear instructions and in less time than it's taking
me to type in the story, my scanner was up and running.

Not bad for a company that's in receivership.

I apparently missed the Nikon tirade you've mentioned. (No surprise--it was
probably under some ancient and no longer relevant subject line ;-)

In any case, I had to make several calls to Nikon support regarding my
LS4000 scanner. Without exception, I found them to be prompt, knowledgeable
and courteous, even when it was a case of a certain user failing to read the
manual before calling. In fact, I'd rate them as one of the best for human
phone support that you don't have to pay for. Can't speak for their support
in any other area, but I would not hesitate to recommend a Nikon film
scanner for this or any other reason.
