Interesting. I also have a Polaroid SS4000, which worked fine last time
I tried. But you never know... Where does one "brush" to fix the
problem?

See what the fear of bankruptcy can do to a company. :)
Nikon needs to be humbled a little. I won't go into my story of unhappiness with fruitless Nikon service calls, suffice it to say that after 20 Nikon years, I am the happy owner of Olympus and Canon equipment. No more Nikon unless it is just the cat's meow, which it isn't.

In light of the recent tirades over the customer service, or lack there
of, and Nikon I wish to report
a recent experience that might sway people into the purchase of a
Polaroid scanner.

I have a SS4000 that has served me very well for several years and the
other day in the middle of a scanning session
it failed to recognize the film holder and when I restarted it ,would
not come out of initialization.

I called Polaroid tech support, they answered promptly and when I
explained what was happening,
the tech knew of the symptoms and took my address and said they had
designed a special little brush that would
fix the problem.

Three days later, the brush is delivered to me, free of charge, ( the
tech didn't even ask when I bought my scanner or anything)
I followed the very clear instructions and in less time than it's taking
me to type in the story, my scanner was up and running.

Not bad for a company that's in receivership.

I know that George was being funny about Polaroid's service and fear of
bankruptcy, but I have to say that Polaroid has been very good to me for
many years - way before their current financial problems. They are one of
the very few companies that still had some kind of decent artist support
program through good times and bad; they still have been incredibly helpful
and positive when it comes to listening to artists, encouraging them to
experiment with Polaroid materials, maintaining a collection and producing
books of work done with Polaroid stuff, and so on.

Sure they have made some odd products here and there, but I, for one, really
hope that they survive and flourish.

Stephen,
I remember going to a lot of their presentations and am in total agreement with you. I , too hope they can pull themselves out of their problems and again become a leader in instant imaging. It would be to the benefit of all.
