And have a smaller minimum droplet size.

Because the inks it uses are highly, unpleasantly, variable in color tone
under different light sources, and the driver fix that reduces that
variability somewhat also reduces image quality in the process. If you wish
to use a 2000p for B&W you will need a special inkset of one kind or another,
at which point a printer like the 1280 would be faster and cheaper.

Lack of a deep black and metamerism.

Alex,

As was posted earlier, with the Epson inks the metamerism was very bad and
the B&W prints generally not acceptable to people.

I have seen mono-ink prints for a 2000P that are very nice. Also one or two
people tried MIS-VM inks in the 2000P and there is reason to believe that
due to the difference in droplet size that it might be well suited for use
with the grayscale pigment inks. The problem was that no one was willing to
fine tune the RGB separation curves. So if you went that route then you
would have to do your own curves.

Image Print supports the 2000P for color work so I would think that they
could also do grayscale profiles as well which would be another route to go.

Ernst,

Actually a the slightly larger droplet size of the 2000P may be an advantage
allowing you to get better ink blending for smoother tonally transitions and
with the larger nozzle less prone to clogging.

I certainly wouldn't go out an buy a 2000P for B&W work but I think you
could convert one you already had to grayscale inks.
