I did exactly what you're considering. I have a 2000P for color (I'm
trying Generations 4 inks in it, BTW, because I'm not thrilled with
the output on a non-glossy paper). I bought a 1280 which includes a
$100 rebate until the end of the year. Got a set of MIS-VM inks and a
CFS from missupply. I'm very happy with the results so far. Using
curves and workflows supplied on the mis site, but will experiment on
my own to better the output.
I just swap the USB cable between the two printers as needed.
I've thought about and seen a few things in B/W from the 2200, mainly
from Epson reps. Looked nice, but have read mixed reviews. I think
using the hextone inkset in a dedicated printer was the better way
for me.
