Return of "Is THIS banding?"

Return of "Is THIS banding?"

2003-01-18 by franklinmiller4 <proxy@photocommando.com>

Hi -
Thanks for all of the feedback you've been giving me.
 So here's the update:
Took off the CFS (which introduced bubbles into the hoses - least
of my problems right now) and put on Epson cartridges.
So far the problem hasn't gone away. Nozzle tests are clean as a
whistle, while test prints are banding. Am pretty sure driver/etc.
is all up-to-date.
Moved the printer to a sturdier table thinking table shake might
have something to do with it but no effect.
 So.
Should I get the head replaced?
 How much does this cost?
I was going to send a Polaroid scanner in at one point, until the
told me how much it cost to fix and it was more than half the price
of a new one... So I'm a bit leery of sending in the printer...

Stupid question -

Have you fiddled with the 0/+ switch at all? I find that when it's set
incorrectly I get banding.

My local Epson repair place charges about $230 to replace the head (head
included). You can buy a printhead for about $90, and it's not hard to
put in, but the necessary alignment software is effectively impossible to get.

Does this sound familiar? Huh? As in chipped carts?

(who's running a CIS and shouting with glee "EIGHTY DOLLARS!" every time he
resets the two carts in his 1160)

well, with that in mind...

Is there any compelling reason not to just get a new printer?

 I mean, I'd rather get a 1280 (or find a 1270 NIB on e-bay) at $350
than spend $230 (plus postage, etc) on keeping up my 1270.

 Any thoughts?

2100/2200 magenta shift problem

2003-01-19 by Martin Sluka

I apologize, if this observation was published in conference before.

One my customer tried to print old BW photos with a warm tone on
Epson Stylus Photo 2100. He used Archival Matte Paper (Enhanced MP).
The problem was that the print outs were pink, there was very strong
shift to magenta.

I have try to check setup of printer, I have use several printing
methods including custom ICC profiles from net, which work very well
with my 2100. Allways magenta shift.

I have try to compare printing from my 2100 and his 2100 - both from
his computer, with the same USB cable and with identical setup. And
there I discovered an interesting thing - printer with magenta shift
has dimmed (no active) 2880 dpi in advanced setup. Another things
were identical - including firmware version.

I have check this with another customer, which has the identical
problem and his printer connected by FireWire has 2880 dimmed too.

Those who has identical problem - may you check, please, this problem
and dimmed 2880 dpi in driver?

Is there any reason? Is there any solution?

TIA

Hey,
I had made some BW-prints too with the 2100/2200. First I though also 'what's that... magenta!?'. But when I went outside (for daylight) to take a look at those prints, they where perfectly black&white!!!
Daylight gives you the perfect view at your print.
(The maximum for a print on this kind of paper is 1440 dpi.)

But way two identical printers under identical conditions printed two
different pictures - and only visible difference in setup was dimmed
2880 dpi in driver.

Is this possible?

This tells me that POSSIBLY you had the paper selection set differently and
again, POSSIBLY overrode the "no color adjustment" setting. Thus setting off
a color management war between Photoshop and the printer that resulted in
your magenta shift.

That's my guess.

Checked three times - Photoshop still running - printers sitting on
one desk side by side - any idea? Different from - I'm firstime user
of such a device :)

It's very strange indeed. I use 2 printers 2100, and did not see any problem. Both printers deliver the same picture. (I work on Mac)
