Hi all,

Sorry to bring this up but perhaps nobody has yet mentioned it on this
rather new elist. Some folks are quoting entire threads in their replies.
I don't know about others but I receive the list in digest form and it is
a major pain to read perhaps a one line reply followed by an enormous
quote - usually the whole thread - basically half the digest is quoted
material we have all read before. One person recently quoted back the
entire previous digest!

Please, people just post the one or several lines particularly pertinent
to your reply. If you don't know how to do this I'm sure we can all help
you out on both Mac and Windows platforms.

Cheers,

Nina

Nina,

Thanks for the reminder. This seems to be one of those thinks that
simply needs to be endlessly repeated at regular intervals as even
the most experienced of us forget upon occasion.

Those who receive digests by e-mail need to be particularly careful
or the next digest you receive yourself will be a very, very long one.

Martin

One other matter too: I switched my settings for this list this
weekend, from web-only to email. Today, I noticed a very
noticeable difference in these approaches: when you choose to
Reply to a post, the web-based version offers the option to reply
to only ONE person -- the person who posted prior to you. But, if
you get this list via email, you only have one choice: to reply to the
whole list. I've noticed many posts over the last few months that
seemed more appropriate to go to one individual, but now, I am
assuming that these people are getting the email version, and
were probably unaware and unable to do so. Due to this one
major difference, I switched back today to the web version; I think
it's much better. Just a thought. --Mark Tucker

Mark,

Well it might be better for USA folks but if you have a standard modem
connection in Europe (and a lot of other places) you pay your online
phone time by the minute - no free local calls - which makes reading
lists in webview rather expensive. That's why I always opted for the
digest form. I now have ADSL so that's no longer an issue but I like to
read at my convenience and perhaps go back and save some tip or other.
Easier to do if you have it already on your hd.

Responding to one person isn't that difficult though not a one click
deal. You just make a new message and copy/paste in the address of the
receipient instead of just clicking Reply button. Even using Reply to
post to the group you still gotta copy/paste the thread subject.

Cheers,

Nina

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
