Now have a more specific idea about this problem. The issue appears
to be a conflict in the 2200 RIP and the epson driver/software for
my second, general printer, an Epson 777.
With a number of system restores and trial and error I find the
following:
If I never install the 777, all works.
If I install it (777, driver from Windows XP) but never print with
it, all works.
If I install it (the 777, and always after the 2200 driver (the
older version even though I downloaded it Friday) and then the 2200
RIP), use it but do not restart the computer the RIP still works
HOWEVER, if I then restart the computer after doint the above, the
RIP has the fading , trailing edge issue again (now easily tested
for by sending the printer a windows test page and seeing the last
lines fading off).
It appears the 777, once installed and used, rewrites somthing that
on restartup takes the place of somthing used by the RIP.
I then bagged the 777 and used a C42UX stolen from my son's room to
be the general printer and all works, all the time (so far).
I do like the output of the RIP but there are some asthetic
adjustments in the prints I would like to try. This will be easier
with the silly thing working.
BTW does anyone using the RIP know how to have it keep the settings
(paper choice, DPI, etc.) or do I just need to reset these each time
I open the server?
Hope this invistigation helps someone who may have a similar problem
with the RIP (Windows XP Home, prints sent to the RIP server from
PS7 as standard PS files).
