RIP's

RIP's

2003-05-09 by yah_group

Hello, this is my first post.

I have a new 7600 and want to print tiled photo images and generally
arrange my images as I wish on a page. I am new to all this, so am I
being simplistic in thinking that I can export Photoshop images into
Illustrator and print from there?
If not and I need a RIP, is there something more affordable than
ImagePrint? I have been on Ergosofts site and looked at PosterPrint
but could not see any pricing. I have also seen Qimage. Any
affordable thoughts would be appreciated.

(I will make another post on a related matter)

You can arrange them as you wish in PS, create a canvas the size of
your printed sheet, use the guides to create a template, use the snap
to guide feature to align, add registration marks etc as needed. I
don't print from Illustrator personally.

If you are only purchasing a RIP with thoughts of using the layout
features alone that'd be a waste of money in my opinion.

I have always associated RIP with a dedicated box that processes the
file prior to printing. Decreases print times etc. I am also
getting the feeling that many people in the group are using the RIP
primarily for the driver and not the pre-print processing. Am I
missing something or am I on track?

Thanks,

the RIP's discussed here, Imageprint, PosterPrint, Colorburst et al
are not dedicated boxes. Hardware RIP's are usually associated with
Imagesetters. The RIP's talked about here are software. People are
enjoying RIP's for more than the original purposes required in the
prepress/offset press industry. exciting and expensive.

you will find a ton of info here: and a discussion on RIP's for fine
art printing in today's archives.

also might want to read the epson wide format list.
