I somewhat inadvertantly installed the new driver (V 5.4 for XP). I
was trying to fix a conflict I had when first using the Epson 2200
RIP (conflict turned out to be the driver for an Epson 777 printer
and the RIP). I had uninstalled and re-installed, piece by piece
all my Epson software and when I reinstalled the driver I used the
version from the web site (too lazy to find the 2200 install CD) and
it was on the day it was upgraded (but I had not paid attention to
the date on the driver file). I had no problems (for my use) with
the old driver. Since the new driver was installed when I got the
RIP program to work, I left it there.
I too had used the "photorealistic" setting method with the old
driver to make nice B&W prints. Although now I like the RIP ones
better, I did want to have the option to use the "photorealistic"
method so with a bit of guesswork I found that using the "advanced"
settings window and choosing "color controls" as the selection
for "color management" and then setting the "color mode"
to "standard" I could get the same print I got from the same file
earlier using "photorealistic" on the old driver.
It seems like the "loss" of a feature is perhaps really only a name
change. I did a couple of reprints with the new driver and the
aformentioned settings and they looked fine. I have not done more
than that as I have been using the RIP so it is possible someone
might find a difference I have not uncovered.
In summary these are the "photorealistic" settings I found from
another posting on this group (thanks again for working these out).
BLACK AND WHITE with the 2200 and the standard Epson 2200 inkset and
printer driver.
1. WORK AND PRINT in Adobe 1998 color space.
2. OLD DRIVER= Always use the "Photorealistic" color setting unde
the "Advanced" settings - "Color Controls". Use 2.2 Gamma.
(NEW DRIVER= Color controls, Color mode=standard (instead of
photorealistic))
3. Enhanced Matte paper and matte black ink.
4. Relative colormetric, no M,C or Y adjustments, contrast or
brightness adjustments in the print driver. Black point checked.
Hope this helps,
Robert
