Run a flush cart and reinstall Epson carts. Is the banding still there? If
yes it is likely a printer issue - if not it could be that you need new cis
carts. I've been forced to replace 4 cis carts after about 12 months each,
so it is worth investigating.

Re: Epson banding and 'unhappy' scales

I just installed a cis system using VM-S inks on an epson 1280
printer that had no previous appearent banding issues. I noticed on
some of my larger test sheets, using EAM, similar banding as
described below. Given that the system was installed the same day,
it doesn't seem like a flush would be the solution. There were no
lines earlier in the day with the standard epson inks. Steve, if you
do flush, I'd love to hear your results.
Thanks.

Re: Epson banding and 'unhappy' scales

2003-05-15 by Johnny Eades

I had a similar instance of banding with the same printer and it
turned out to be one of the chambers was not full of ink, but rather
full of foam. I sucked as much of the ink and foam out and put it
back into the proper bottle of ink and then I went to the kitchen
sink and simply injected water till it ran out of the cartridge
clear. Then I taped over the air vent holes with electrical tape and
used a large syringe to suck out any remaining foam or water. After
refilling the cartridge with ink; which this time was all ink in the
cartridge and not any foam; and have been printing all day today.
Possibly one of your cartridges has accumulated too much foam. I
don't know if this is a problem with CIS setups or not, but just and
idea.

Johnny Eades

Re: Epson banding and 'unhappy' scales

2003-05-15 by scrber

This sounds like a possible, it is with new-ish carts already, but
seems to have just 'happened'. I will pull some ink through the
carts, re-install, re-purge, re-clean and re-try (don't you just love
it?....)
Is it possible for the 'paper drive belt' to stretch? I heard
something about a machine wear in this respect but I didn't think
this was a belt drive printer like the old 3000/1200?

Thanks for the advice.

Steve.

Re: Epson banding and 'unhappy' scales - solved

2003-05-15 by scrber

Seem to have got it licked.
Windex on a paper towel to clean the underside of the heads.
Sucked 2 OZ ink through each nozzle (after loosing vacuum - DOH!)
4 head aligment cycles (Still no idea what I'm doing, but aiming for
the most 'continuous tone' seemed to be the thing to do???)
Cleaning, purging, singing God Save The Queen and my prints look
great again, no banding PHEW!

Thanks for your help.

Steve.
