Any rumors of a ship date or additional info for the Ultrasmooth?

Hi

I have read about this paper but cannot find anyone who sells it in 
the UK. Is Epson Ultrasmooth paper available in the UK? If it is who 
sells it?

you can only get it in (big) rolls so far I think (though it's the same
paper as the Epson Scrapbook watercolour).

It's 99% the same paper as Premier Imaging Fine Art Hot Pressed - which
comes in different weights and sheet sizes.

It's a great paper imo (no OB's good dmax, nice feel, no flaking)- I love it
for color and B&W - but you may have to order from the US.

Ask Premier Imaging if they are exporting it

Epson....

Seriously though, they do have it on the web site.  It does not come 
in cut sheet.  They have it in rolls for the 4000 (17") and the 
bigger *600 machines.
I just order some from TDOC, but it really is incredibly expensive, 
much more so than Photorag or even the new Alpha300 paper which our 
cousins in the US actually pay more for.

Yes I had seen the paper in roll form but I wanted A4/A3 sheets. 
Seems I will just have to wait.

Hi Peter,

If you want to try this paper, Epson has it in sheet form listed as 
Premier Art Matte Scrapbook Photo Paper, 11.6x11.6 and letter size.  
A very similar paper if not identical is Premier Art museum paper 
available from several vendors.

I have used osprey velvet a lot. I have it profiled
with UT inks using QTR on an epson 1200. Its a nice
paper for certain uses. Its dmax is low, like 1.48 or
so, if i try to bump it up while profiling it just
creates a glossy build up that looks bad. Also
printing big areas of black can result some weird
white streaks, not banding lines but almost feathery
swilrs. So for photos with lots of black or wide
dynamic range I don't recommend it at all. But its
midtones are fantastic and long. So for low contrast
subjects that need long subtle midtones it is quite
nice. The feel is nice too, Hawk Mtn's Merlin is one
of the stiffest sheets I know of while Osprey is one
of the "floppiest" its almost fabric like.

I have made prints on all three Osprey papers (smooth, textured and
velvet) and also with Merlin Smooth and Condor BW.  

The Osprey papers are slightly warmer than Photo Rag in color, but
render Eboni ink slightly cooler.  They all have a soft "hairy"
surface (trying to find the right word...like an open grain as opposed
to a closed grain hard smooth surface).  As a result fine details are
not rendered as sharply as closed grain surfaces.  They also don't
have the Dmax that Merlin and Condor have.

The really outstanding Hawk Mtn papers are the Merlin and Condor,
which both have excellent Dmax and closed grain smooth surfaces which
render very sharp detail.  In addition, they both take carbon inks
much cooler than PR.  Condor, pure white, is the only cotton matte
inkjet paper I've seen that looks really cold neutral with carbon ink,
like a selenium toned Oriental Seagull print.  Merlin Smooth, cream
colored, is slightly warmer than Condor but still cooler than PR.  It
reminds me of Ilford MG II.  It's interesting stuff - next to PR it
looks neutral, but next to Condor it looks warm.  Both make beautiful
prints and are part of my arsenal of papers (I do Eboni BO printing
and must rely on different papers to get warm/cool variations).

The Osprey prints look good on their own, but placed next to Condor,
Merlin or PR they look weak.  To me they are not in the same class.

I agree with Clayton.  The Condor BW is amazing paper.  I would say 
that about half of my final BO prints go on that paper.  I love the 
cool look that it gives.

For warmth I have been using Photo Rag, but it is so expensive.  I 
think I will switch to Merlin smooth for my warmer prints.
