Very sad and shocking news! Jerry was a founding member of this group and a
prolific contributor on this list and others. I see that his last post was
on May 9th and a six day absence from the list is a pretty big gap for him.
He was also a faithful contributor to the various print exchanges. His
presence will be greatly missed and his prints treasured. I can't help but
hope that he will post to say that the rumors of his demise are greatly
exaggerated.

Words don't suffice.

Martin Wesley

Wow, for once I am near speechless...

I was just thinking about him yesterday when I spoke with Rob Zeiss...

His contributions will be sorely missed if this is true..

Strangely, last night after talking to Zeiss earlier in the day, I
wondered why Jerry hadn't posted of late.. Even stranger is the fact
that I thought to myself "I hope he's ok."

Just reinforces in my mind how fragile our existence is..

I don't think I'm likely to ever hear someone quote a dMax for a new
paper/ink combo without thinking what Jerry might have said...

Perhaps it is a good point for all of us to remember that the others we
deal with, and argue with on these fora are real living people of flesh
and blood.. and just as tenuously connected to this mortal coil as we
ourselves are..

This is very very sad news. I never personally met Jerry, but he and I have
had many a conversation on the Internet, and I've greatly appreciated his
presence.

I've never been so moved from a loss of someone I never met in the flesh. He
was generous with his information/opinions to a fault. His spirited
discussions will be sorely missed. I will always think of Jerry when
examining a print for good blacks...

Hi All,

Receiving my e-mails from the list today I could not help but notice the
"Sad News" subject line. I knew that this couldn't be a good thing! I was
shocked to open Clayton's message and see that Jerry Olson had passed
unexpectedly. Having never met the man I felt, like probably most of you,
that I knew him through many e-mail exchanges, etc. In my early days of
quadtone printing I had sent Jerry many newbie-type questions because I had
bought a digital B&W print of his that I really admired. He was always
gracious with his time and answered every one of my e-mails. I very much
respected his opinion and will sorely miss his contributions to this forum.

My thoughts are with Jerry's family and loved ones,
Alan Huntley
