Streaking and puddling inks

Streaking and puddling inks

2003-06-22 by Johnny Eades

I am having a problem with MIS VM inks puddling and streaking. I
refill my cartridges myself and have done so since getting my Epson
1280 from eBay this year. It happens at any random time, but more so
after I refill the cartridge and let it sit overnight before putting
it into the printer. My line of reasoning is related to the
thickness of paper used. I use a lot of Office Depot Presentation
paper for proof and also finished print. It is a matte paper
product. If I use that paper, the chances of a blob or streak
increases. I can then use a thicker paper (Epson Enhance Matte)
immediately after a streaked print and then the print on the thicker
paper has a very small chance of streaking and blobbing. Can anyone
tell me if I am on the right track or not?

Johnny,

I generally get puddling when I overfill the cartridges. In the old
days (~ a year ago), MIS used to recommend 18 ml for each chamber on
their vigin empty cartridges. Now they recommend 15 ml. Even though
I use the vacuum method, I found it best to let the cart sit
overnight prior to installation.

Hope this helps.

Shilesh

Hello Shilesh,

Thanks for the information. I was following the instructions on MIS
website that told me to fill till some ran out the top vent holes. I
can see now that is wrong information. Your advice seems more
logical to me. Thanks again.
