MIS-FS+1160+EEM workflow

MIS-FS+1160+EEM workflow

2003-07-15 by hlockwood

This is a FYI for users of MIS-FS ink sets (those of us who haven't
yet switched to the increasingly popular Roark approach.)

The MIS site has John Woolf's workflows for the Epson 980 and 1160
which give excellent results indeed. If one examines the prints with
a loupe, however, printing dots are readily visible in the lighter
tones. (This may also be unimportant to you.)

If you are using an 1160 there is an alternative in the Jeff Randall
workflow, also available at the MIS site. Unlike John's WF, Jeff's
is a partitioned RGB WF, therefore a bit more work. But the effort
is easily worth it. There are absolutely no print dots from this WF,
none. Tonal fidelity/separation is excellent, as evident from a 50-
step wedge.

A similar WF for the 980 is, unfortunately, not available.

It shall work with the 980,as they are essentialy the same printer
with different sizes...try that profile a just wrote about and see
what you get!

No, it's close, but it doesn't work well for the 980. The upper tones
(increasing gray) are compressed such that the image prints out too
dark in the shadows.

I did ask Jeff to generate a curve set for the 980. He said his day
job, the one that pays him, was taking up too much of his time for him
to get to it. Now, I ask, what kind of excuse is that? <g> <g>

Harry: hohoho <g> Ship me a 980 and I'll generate a curve set.
Unfortunately my day job doesn't pay enough to allow me to purchase
every Epson printer. <g>

Oh no, not another poor excuse from Jeff. <G>
But let's pursue this. I would consider sending my 980 for that
purpose. The 1160 curves are that good.

Give me an address.

I think I shot from the lip. On second thought, sending the printer,
ink bottles, tubing, etc., across the country may be a bit impractical.
Let me say, however, that Jeff has done a great service to those of us
who are using the MIS-FS ink set.
Thanks Jeff, I'll get along with your excellent 1160 workflow.
