SK168 Re-setter and MIS Carts Fit Problem

SK168 Re-setter and MIS Carts Fit Problem

2003-08-29 by Tom Husband

I have a 1280 and use the empty MIS T009 and T007 carts w/chip. I
just refilled my second set of carts with UT ink and used the SK168
re-setter. It fit perfectly on the black cart. The slots on the re-
setter fit with the edge on the cart. The re-setter didn't fit,
however, on the color cart. I had to line the pins up without any
guide to get the LED to start blinking. It took several tries and
at one point I thought I had it only to find that the cart showed
empty in the printer. I pulled it and finally got it right.
Anybody else see this? I wrote MIS several days ago but haven't
heard anything which is unlike them. I'll drop them another line
but wondered if I'm alone with this problem.

Thanks,

Tom

Right Paul. Thanks. In fact I just got off the phone with them and
they've never seen it before. They said it might be the chip but
then I would think it wouldn't work in the printer and it does after
I'm finally able to matched the pins with the chip. As usual they
were very nice and offered to replace the re-setter but I can't
believe the molded plastic would be different from unit to unit. I
guess it could be the cart but then it's molded too. Maybe tonight
I'll try it on an Epson cart I have and see if it matches up. It
doesn't shut me down at all it's just a little tricky matching the
pins to the chip. Very weird.

Thanks,

Tom

Tom,

I just purchased the same item - and have found the
same problem. The black cart lines right up, but the
color cart does not match any slots. Most likely we
will have to outsmart the unit unless you hear
otherwise from MIS. One thought is to pull the chips
off the carts and mount them on a spare black
cartridge for resetting only. Its Mickey Mouse but it
helps regarding the alignment.

Whew! Glad it wasn't just me. Maybe MIS monitors this list and will
take a look. I think I'll give them another call.

Thanks Don,

Tom

Tom:

I had problems with that unit too. In fact I had MIS send me another one
but still had problems. I found that it worked best if I just removed the
guide and lined up the pins by eye. I also found that I had to push the
resetter against the cartridge hard enough to push the pins into the
resetter a quarter of an inch or so and that seemed to work much better.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Joe. That's what I had to do too although I'm not sure what
you mean by removing the guide. On both the re-setter and the 1280
cartridge the guides are molded and part of the overall package.
Maybe you're referring to the metal guide that came with it and is
used on another printer? I forget which printer.

I called MIS a second time and they said they would take a look.

Thanks again,

Tom
