QuadToneRIP and custom paper size problems

QuadToneRIP and custom paper size problems

2003-09-01 by Mr_Misty_44

I am using QuadTone RIP and ran into a strange problem. I'm
printing
with a 7500 and have been printing using the defined paper sizes in
the program. I just tried to print an image on a 17X22 piece of
paper. This size is not defined. I went to CUSTOM and set this size
up. I then proceeded to try and print but the program will not pass
the information to the printer. This only seems to happen with custom
paper sizes and not with the predefined sizes. I'm not sure where
the
problem is. QTR, Gimp-Print or Ghost? Has anyone else encountered
this and have you solved it.

John,

If you are using a Mac and OS X try opening your final image file in
Preview and printing from there using the custom paper size function in
the settings window of page setup.

My guess since Preview is a unix based program it can pass the settings
to gimp-print. If you problem is trying to print custom sizes from PS
7 the problem (again my guess) is that PS 7 was a carbonized version of
PS 7 for Mac's OS 9 version and not all the unix functions are properly
translated.

Hopefully, the next upgrad of PS will fix this problem.

David

I can confirm that with PS 7.0 and OSX 10.2.6 and QTR + GIMP there
seems to be no way to print custom page sizes EXCEPT via the Preview
application -- problem with Preview is that it won't center the image
the same way PS7 does, so you basically have to save the image as
JPEG with the white border you want and then open it in Preview and
then print. Pain in the ass, but it works.

I was also told that it might be because I installed another
shareware app but I haven't investigated it further.
