Roger,

I would like one. It could also be placed in the archives of this
list I guess.
Will check where it differs from an installation on Suse.

1270 vs 1280

2003-10-21 by gendem

Hi there

I have the opportunity to pick up a used 1270 for
about 150USD. Are there any strong advantages to
getting a 1280 new over this printer? Any tips or
tricks I should be looking out for? I realise this is
an older printer...but is it stil a contender when it
comes to high quality prints?

Thanks! ;)

Arches Infinity

2003-10-21 by Mark Savoia

I just got a sample pack of Arches Infinity and tried it with Cone's
Selenium Inkset. It looks like crap. Lots of modeling. Especially in
solid black areas. I tried both the textured (awful) and the smooth.
Anyone else try this paper and get good results?

Mark,

I tried it and had about the same opinion you have.

Arches Infinity

Is anyone using Arches Infinity out there? Is there any reason to consider it over
Hahnemuhle rag varieties? It seem quite a bit more expensive. I tried a couple of sheets of
the textured version and it is nice but didn't show me any improved d-max or tonal
characteristics over what I have been using that I could see. Why is so much more
expensive? The name?

John, I hade to rule infinity out also with Piezotones as the dmax just
wasn't there.
Beautiful paper though and well suited for color work and some BW stuff.
Ultrachrome Black not that hot either on this paper compared the Hahnemule.
3-4 times the price of Silver fiber paper! I'll pass for now.

I agree with Steve. Disapointing Dmax, bad gloss differencial in
shadows, tendency to mottle with high ink load, severely overpriced.
Did I mention it smells bad?

Other than that, it's beautiful!

Re: [Digital BW] Arches Infinity

When I first tried some I was quite impressed. Very sharp results,
nice feel to the paper (weird smell though). The images I printed
however had little amount of blacks areas. When I later printed an
image with large areas of black I was unwhelmed with the Dmax and
also, as Tyler mentioned, saw some mottling in areas with lots of
black. That, and the price, turned moe off since then.
