Has anyone tried replacing the 1160 waste ink pads? Any ideas on where instructions might be found? Thanks. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com

I would imagine that the 1160 is constructed in a similar way, so a little fiddling should get you easy access. Matt -- Matt Haber dance, portrait and fashion photography http://www.matthaber.com

Paul, I purchased and disassembled a used 1160 and it was quite loaded with waste ink. If I recall, I removed the two top screws on either side of the paper feed and the lid comes right off. To get to the waste pads you have to take screws off the bottom - esentially turning the printer into three parts. The waste pads are a strange item and unless you have a source for an epson replacement it would be difficult to replicate the material they use. As the top of the waste pads (5 total?) was saturated with ink, I just shuffled the pads until the most saturated was the second to the bottom and the least was on the top and reassembled the thing. An option would be to feed the waste lines outside of the printer into an waste ink collection jug. Then you could reset the master counter of the printer and be on your way, dumping the waste ink whenever it became full. > > Has anyone tried replacing the 1160 waste ink > pads? > > > > Any ideas on where instructions might be found? > > > > Thanks. > > > > Paul > __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I purchased two sets of pads and a service manual a year or two ago from: http://www.nationalparts.com/ I have not replaced them at this point. (No need to.) Others have reported that they remove, wring out, and reinstall originals. Not my style: the solution below certainly sounds sensible. Phil Morse

Paul: The Epson Repair Manuals for older printers up to the 1270 can be found on the Epson UK web site. http://www.epson.co.uk/repair/ Jeff Randall --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@v...> wrote:

They usually have their favorite brand. Colour doesn't matter. God I wish I knew the American term for it. Ernst

>The Epson Repair Manuals for older printers up to the 1270 can be >found on the Epson UK web site. >http://www.epson.co.uk/repair/ Thanks Jeff and others for the tips on how to change the 1160 waste ink pads. I'm happy to report that the machine is up and running again, stuffed with the absorbent material found in "sanitary napkins." The repair manual was very useful in doing this task. However, it's a messy task that I might well have the Epson repair person do next time. The lesson I learned from this is that when the printer lights go on and require service -- do it. I just re-set the printer, based on someone's observation that these required services are not really needed nearly as often an the printer calls for them. When I moved the printer a couple of months after the lights came on ink ran out of it. This could have been a real disaster if we had carpets or things that would be damaged by ink. So, pay attention to those lights that tell you to get the printer serviced. The pads get really saturated with ink and might make a real mess if not changed soon. Paul http://www.PaulRoark.com

Paul, try epson.co.uk/repair or findmanual.net Simple but messy job, but with my 1200 I just rinsed them out and put them back in and reset the counter with the adjustment program from findmanual. Cost of program nominal. Service manuals are free at epson.co.uk. New pads from nationalparts.com, but pretty pricey. Tom Wells
