It's you. The tutorial is there. Others are getting to it.

Yahoo tends to wrap long URLs, breaking.

Just try the URL to the folder. It's shorter. The tutorial is there.

[Digital BW] Re: Split Channels Method for Converting to B&W Tutorial

2003-12-07 by Glenn Mitchell

I'm done trying to help.

The old Chinese adage is correct. My good deed is definitely giving
me lots of punishment and abuse right now. :(

The document is where I posted the URL. Lots of people have
downloaded it.

Join the group, if you want to view the PDF. Goodness, you already
have a Yahoo! Groups account. So adding another group, even for a
few seconds to get the document is no big deal! ;)

I try to do this group a service, and most of what I hear is whining
about the URL being too long, being told the file is not there
(which it definitely is), etc.

I will not post my tutorials here or in other groups. When I sell
it, I will have to pull it off the Web. In the interim, it will stay
on sites under my control. It's my intellectual property. ;)

I have e-mailed it or offered to e-mail to about a dozen people. I
think I've done quite a bit to share information.

Enough of the complaining and whining, please.

In fact, I'm unsubscribing. The culture of this group is too bitchy
and whiney for my tastes. I prefer groups where people are more
appreciative.

Au revoir,

Mitch

Helo, you can do whatever you want to of course, but if you post a
tutorial, it would have been helpful to indicate that people must
subscribe to the Canon group.

When filling in the link into the browser there is an error message
indeed, which is not very helpful. I think its always a good gesture
to share work you have done - thats how this group is going - there
is a lot of good work shared, like the printing curves, so it would
be helpful to share it in a way everyone can appreciate it in an
uncomplicated way.

On top of that, it's not even the most popular Canon 10D group. The tutorial
is posted in Canon10D, which was created last June, perhaps in response to
dissatisfaction with the much bigger Canon-10D group, which was started last
February. Why a B&W tutorial would be posted only in a Canon group, and not
this B&W group is something I don't quite grasp.

Glenn,

Of course, joining the Canon 10D group to get the document is no big
deal...but knowing that one must do that in the first place can certainly
cause some confusion. Also, once I figured out that I needed to subscribe
to "a" Canon 10D Yahoo group...I had a choice of three or more Canon 10D
groups to subscribe to! For me, even after joining the right group, the URL
(cut & pasted complete) didn't work...but going there directly did.

I don't think anyone is unappreciative of your efforts, but there were some
issues with accessing this document that weren't apparent, or typical. At
least to a dope like me, they weren't. I think you may be misperceiving
people's enthusiasm for wanting to access your document. Anyway, thanks for
writing up the tutorial.

Regards,

Austin

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Split Channels Method for Converting to B&W Tutorial

2003-12-07 by Jack M Kucy

The reason is simple IMHO.
As much as I appreciate somebody's efforts to create the tutorial and
so, I think that this way of drowing the number of people to this group
(by the way created by Mitch as I understand) in hope that not everyone
will unsubscribe thus creating more legitimate group is to say the least
very sneaky.
I for that matter shoot with 1Ds and do not care for the 10D group from
which I received already a few too much messages. We (BW Print Group)
have our archives which can accept the Mitches tytorial as well.
Again - I appreciate the efford and the knowledge, but it's too mach of
the "behind the scene" reasons for my taste.
Thanks,
Jack

No, Mitch, it's NOT him. Several of us, including me, are not able to
get it to come up. You don't seem to notice that many folks have said
that they're not just clicking on the link. Cutting and pasting the
URL is NOT WORKING.

Here's the URL I see in your earlier post:
http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/MCfSP49pMGBGYiXuWSttDAh32AntTC3_gTK1UzsgEzplEPV15J56_CnxKWgtzMcqq-TpT1jnOgdmd6mbZgyR/Tutorials/Split%20Your%20Channels.pdf

Result is:
"Document Not Found
The document you requested could not be found."

Going to here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Canon10D/files/Tutorials/
doesn't work either, for me: result is: "You are not a member of the
group Canon10D."

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
