BO printing on epson 2100 (2200)

2004-01-08 by andreamorphine

hello,
is it possible with Black Only printing obtaining
neutral bw prints?
with the archival (enhanced) matte and epson matte black I always
have brownish tones, also with +20% of density.
I must buy a third part black cartridge for BO printing?
Is this possible?
If I try the photo black on archival with BO I had greenish tones
(and a lot of metamerism!)
and with semi-gloss quite good prints but with high bronzing.

thanks in advance and greetins,
andrea

IMHO, BO printing and third party inks are a poor substitute
compared with using something like ImagePrint Lite RIP.

The costs are similar, and the results with IP are far superior for
a couple of reasons.

(1) BO printing uses just one color and dithering. The dithering
pattern is usually quite obvious. Some people do not mind them, but
many people do. When you use the full 7-colors available on the
Epson 2200 for B&W, you get continuous gray tones without dithering.

(2) The results are very unreliable. I used BO printing with the
Epson 2200 and got prints that were acceptable only with the lighter
weight Arches Infinity paper.

(3) Third party inks violate the warranty on your printer, and they
tend to cause problems over time. Clogging, issues with drying time,
etc. Just look at the threads here and on the Epson 2200 group from
people with third-party ink problems.

If you use IP Lite, you will have less bronzing and neutral gray
tones with the Epson Ultrachrome inks.

Cheers,

Mitch

Do you mean to tell us that MIS, InkjetMall, Lyson and others are
knowingly selling third party inks which violate the warranty on
Epson printers ?

Also, to make such assertions, you surely must have some legals basis
and jurisprudence to back up those claims. What are they ?

Or are you just a troll ?

Andre

Hi,

     Can hardly believe my eyes.

What is wrong with MIS, InkjetMall, Lyson etc selling inks which
violate the warrany of Epson printers?. Why should they not be able
to do so. Many people have Epson printers working long after the
warranty has expired. Would your peculiar thinking deprive them of the
right to use any ink they feel like?.

Many people might like to use those inks even if it voids the Epson
warranty. Perhaps the inks will give them some effect they
particularly desire. Perhaps they prefer to use the products even if it
voids their warranty. Would you deprive them of their right to do so?.

On the other hand I think Epson is perfectly within its right to insist
that for their warranty to be honoured you must use only Epson Inks. Epson
papers, and Epson anything else. They cannot possibly warranty any
combination of any products that anybody, anywhere might dream up.

It boils down to common sense and caution. If you want to stray from the
path required by your warranty, research, ask, read, etc. etc. and take the
risk if you consider it worthwhile.

Jurisprudence. My foot !!! . As always: Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware.

We already have enough legal garbage and litigatory excess here. This
country, as far as I am concerned, is rapidly turning into one of the
lawyers, by the lawyers and for the lawyers. All the rest of us just to
shut up, pay and do what is allowed us.

        Best Alex

I'm not a Mac user. So, our options are fewer re. RIPs.

I believe IP Lite is the least expensive option for PC users. Nearly
$500 US.

Mitch

I can read the warranty from Epson that shipped with my printer. ;)

One might ask you the same thing. Are you a troll?

If you look back over the threads for the last week during which
I've been a member, you'd see that I've tried to help a number of
people on this forum. How about you?

Mitch
