Digital BW, The Print

I downloaded the demo of this RIP and will be setting it up in the next few 
days for both my 2200 and eventually the 9600.  It looks interesting -- I 
imagine that, like ImagePrint, I would use it primamrily for B&W if I get it, as I'm 
satisfied w. the color images from Ultrachrome printers.  Any current users 
have any feedback on it generally?

Specifically, I found this statement on their website to be interesting:

"ColorBurst utilizes Total Ink Limit and Black Preservation in pre-configured 
environments [note: they call profiles "environments."] The Black Preservation 
feature allows ColorBurst to achieve a deep rich black by not limiting the 
Black channel in relation to the Total Ink Limit. This feature enables users to 
get a great black with Epson's Photo Black cartridge even on Matte and Fine 
Art papers. "

Is this actually true?  I thought the photo black/matte black switching was 
necessary not only b/c of better blacks when using photo black w. glossy and 
matte black w. matte papers, but also because of "adherence" problems -- i.e., 
that using photo black ink on matte paper will result in "ruboff."  (Or, is it only 
using matte black on glossy papers that will reuslt in ruboff?  I assumed the 
problem ran in both directions...)

Thoughts on this RIP generally or on the quote above?

I am using the RIP and have had no problems. I print on Epson Premium 
Luster on a 7600.

The profiles are not environments. Environments not only include the 
profile but also your linearization file, printer settings and the 
like.

Have not printed on matte papers so I can't tell you how rich photo 
black prints. Matte black on glossy gives you a problem from what I 
have heard.

ColorBurst has profiles for grayscale printing as well and I have 
gotten great results printing grayscale using the color profiles.

The grayscale profile choices are limited to glossy and luster with PK.
The color profiles will print grayscale but have a different 'tone' to
them.
Colorburst has some problems with sheet feeding and centering on the
7600. Their comment on the problem was 'nobody prints sheet stock on a
7600 anyway'. I understand that due to differences in 'microweave'
methods between the 2200 and 7600/9600, the print quality is also
different.

Their 'environments' are made by the user and are comprised of a paper
profile, paper size, configuration(sheet/roll/cut, non-cut), microweave
passes, bidirectional choice, 720/1440, etc. You have to set up an
'environment' for each paper type/size, color/grayscale and so on.

Is anyone using Colorburst on a Mac? Have you been able to get the
'Rendezvous' printing from Photoshop to work?
