1280 Driver for 1270- Has Anyone Here Done It ?

1280 Driver for 1270- Has Anyone Here Done It ?

2004-05-06 by sl91911

There have been posts about using the 1280 driver for the 1270 in
Windows so that UT-2 inks can be used.
Has anyone actually succeeded in doing this ?
Were there computer problems with Win XP or Win 98 ?
Can the 1270 nd 1280 drivers coexist (asked by a prior post) ?

I've done it in Win 98se. You simply download the 1280 driver and use
it when you print to the 1270. You may get an error message -
disregard it. Both drivers can coexist on your system.

However, the results on the 1270 with UT2 are not identical to the
results on the 1280.

Evan,
Thank you so much for the reply to my post.
Could you please elaborate on the differences in the results between
the 1270 and 1280. I am basically trying to determine if I can use my
1270 or need to pay more $ to get a 1280. Would appreciate yourinput.

The 1270 with Eboni UT2 produced good results with matte papers, but
unacceptable artifacts with glossy-type papers. What I've found is
that a major advance is the ability to use semi-gloss and pearl
papers. The increase in dMax produces prints which are significantly
closer to traditional silver prints. While many prints look fine on
matte paper, some images really benefit from the increased tonal
range of glossy-type papers.

It can and has been done.. I've done it.. Yes the drivers will co-exist.
It won't give you results as good as using the 1280 on glossy. In
addition, the 1280/1290 dither seems better. Just don't try printing at
2880 dpi or borderless. Check the archives for further comments on it by
me. I'm not going to take my time to post it all again simply to
obviate the option of checking the archives....
