Dumb question about applying curves

Dumb question about applying curves

2004-05-31 by andy-j1959@mchsi.com

I'm sure this is basic, but it is elluding me. I just got the UT7
inks for the 2200 running XP. I downloaded Mr. Roark's curves, and
then loaded one in and tried to print. First, the moment I loaded
(carbon, for example) for premium glossy paper, the screen image
looked almost entirely cyan. When it printed, it was either so
light as to look ridiculous, or there was barely anything there at
all.

What step am I missing here? I've been to this page -
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT-2200-Readme.htm - but nothing seems
to work.

Once you apply the curves you get a false color image.

Sounds like the nozzles are not firing.

Do you get a good print on matte paper when you have "Color Controls"
checked and don't use either curves or sliders?

It comes out only a little darker with the settings you suggest. I
note also that there are vertical light lines at the far left and
right edges of the print.

I recieved my inks last night and had exactly the same issues. I ran
several nozzel check/ clean cycles and tried several different
setting, curves vs sliders, different profiles for curves ,etc.
Until the nozzel check showed perfect patterns I got very obvious
lines near the edge of the print and faint lines through out using
EAM. After I finally ran a clean/check sequence on a peice of scrap
EAM instead of photo copy paper everything was good. This might have
just been that final necessary clean/check cycle or I should have
used EAM all along, I don't know.
Since the clean/check cycle worked I have gotten very good initial
results on EAM and Professional Luster.
A question for Paul: When using curves and Print with Preview on PS8,
what should the document profile be? Same as source? a Epson paper
profile? AdobeRGB?
Thanks

I set my Photoshop Edit, Color settings RGB working space to Adobe RGB
(1998). When I open a file I check "Leave as is (don't color manage)." The
first screen of a PS CS Print with Preview shows a Document Source Space as
Adobe RGB (1998), and a Print Space Profile "Same as Source."

I should follow up on my plight.......I never got a good nozzle
check, and the stripes at either end never went away. MIS promptly
sent me out an entire new set. I replaced only the Eboni cartridge
(the one I thought was the problem, especially after looking at the
nozze checks, and it is has been smooth sailing ever since. I'm
going to pay MIS for the second set, minus the replacement Eboni.
That is good service.
