MIS UT-2 and UTK inks w/Roark curves

MIS UT-2 and UTK inks w/Roark curves

2004-06-08 by adolphamster

I've just installed MIS UT2 and UTK inks in my Epson 1280 printer. I'm
using Epson Heavyweight Matte paper. I've made very good prints
without the Roark curves and no color correction. But when I tried to
use the same inks and printer settings with the Roark curves - well,
the best that can be said of the prints is that they were horrible. It
appears that the ink deposit is far too heavy and the colors are off.
Also in the mid-tones the prints have an almost metallic sheen.

I've used the same setup but with the MIS QVM inks and the Roark
curves and have gotten superb results.

I must be doing something wrong. Suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi:

You are converting the gray scale back to RGB, right.

Then you apply the curve, right.

All setting in PS/CS should be Adobe1998RGB, even in the adobe print
preview - both program and printer.

Then in the epson driver, you select "photo paper", and under custom
you select "no color management" and set you dpi and other settings
the way you want.

Hi,
I probably did exactly as you describe - but the point is that I did
do exactly the same thing both with and without the use of the roark
curves.

Thank you - any suggestions?

In Photoshop's "Print with Preview" Source Space: Adobe.

In Print Space: Profile: Same as Source

I'm using Paint Shop - but it shouldn't make any difference. The point
is that everything is unchanged except I want to use the Roark curves
- and that's where the trouble begins.

I don't think the curves I make are compatible with Paint Shop. Photoshop
and Picture Window are the only programs that seem to be able to use
Photoshop curves without some adjustment. Photoshop Elements will be able
to use the systems when the curves are placed on small files as adjustment
curves. Then Elements and full PS users will be able to use the curves by
just dragging a layer to their files.
