Epson 7000 and Carbon Pigment inksets??

Epson 7000 and Carbon Pigment inksets??

2004-10-03 by john dean

I need some advice from experienced Epson 7000 users. Has anyone out there
successfully used this printer ( or the 9000 ) for use with either the new MIS UT pigment
monochrome inksets or the Cone ICC Piezzotone inkset? And, would there be any
difference in the consistency of the new Cone or MIS inks ( back position? ) in comparison
to the last generaton of mono pigment inks which evidently performed fine in these
printers?

Three of us out here have had head issues since installing carbon pigment inks in the
7000 this past week. Am I just paranoid or is this a bad combination? I need to know if it
is time for me to hang myself on Monday.

Any thoughts would be helpful,

John

John, I can't answer regarding the MIS inks, or the question about
consistency differences, but I can tell you there are many using the
Piezotones in 7000s and 9000s without problems.

Hi, I have been using ut2 inks in the EPSON 1290- and as long as you
don`t leave to long without use it`s fine- I generaly do nozzle check
Approx once per week- if I havn`t been printing-And so far so good
Have had same cartidges in for 9 months as I have not been able to
use it regularly.--So I would think this has been a good test.

John;

I am using the 7000 with MIS inks and while there are occasional clogs etc.,
I generally find that I am able to print consistently and it has worked well
for several years. I started with MIS-FS, then added Eboni, then UT-FS. It
takes time and there has always been a bit of alchemy (humidity, time
between printing sessions, etc.) I use ImagePrint as my RIP and using this
setup I have made hundreds successful prints (mostly 22"x44" some 20"x24")
but there has also been a lot of waste... We are using the printer in a way
that was not intended, so from my point of view a week is not much time to
perfect this sort of modification.

Thank you Wendel I am collecting all this data and it is helpful. I guess the one thing that I
am uncertain of is whether the 7000-9000 performs any differently with carbon quads
than later generation Photo Stylus printers like the 7500 - 7600,9600. But I belive Tyler
when he says that a lot of people are using them successfully for this purpose, and this
was my impression also.

I'm using Piezotones in a 7600. Excellent results. I find that 2880
makes a smoother print. Others don't see it. It's probably an individual
printer thing. If you are printing at 1440, then the 7600 is faster than
the 7000/7500 I've been told. It's still not exactly fast, however ;-)

Hogarth,

What workflow are you using to drive the 7600.

Do you have a RIP or are you using QTR or some other workflow?

I am thinking of following the same route and am interested in your
experiences.

I'm using StudioPrint RIP. Highly recommended, and works really well
with Piezotones.
