QTR Gui problem

QTR Gui problem

2004-09-27 by fredila2

Hi,

I've installed QuadtoneRIP and QTRgui for use with my Epson 2200.
All the installation messages were OK. All the items are in their
proper folders. I am running Windows XP (home) and have installed
the loopback adapter. The Printer Model and Share names are
indentical in the Qtrgui screen. The Host computer name is also
correct.

But...when I try to print a grayscale TIFF image the process
proceeds well and then finishes with no action at the 2200 printer.
The QTR log file ends with "ERROR: Unable to write raster data to
driver!"

Stephen Billard has tried to help me but, unlike me, he has a real
network and does not work with a loopback adapter (which I think
is the source of my problem.)

Does anyone have any ideas that might help me solve my problem?

Thanks in advance,

Fred Rothenberg

What is a loopback adapter?

I have the same configuration and all works well for me (except I have
XP Pro). I can't remeber anything about installing a loopback adapter.

Fred,

What happens when you use QTR without the GUI? If it works OK that
way, then the problem is with the GUI. I have the same system,
including the loopback adaptor and except for XP Pro instead of Home
Ed. There are a number of issues that can stop the process at various
stages, I suggest that you carefully go over all the instructions to
be sure that all the files are in the right folders, this is critical.
I have found that I must let the setup program install the files where
*it wants to* regardless of what's convenient for me, in order to be
sure of locations.

Also, search for "loopback adaptor" in this list to get all the info
on it's installation, there are some important steps that are covered
in a reference link in one of the messages that helped me get it to
work properly.

Hans,

A loopback adaptor is needed to simulate a network for QTR to work. It
is a Microsoft program included in XP and they have some of the info
needed on setting it up. If you got QTR to work without one, you must
have a networked printer on your system.

Frank,

I can't get QTR to work with or without QTRGui. The hang-up is
getting the message to the printer driver. I have the loopback
adapter installed under a LAN3 setting. The 2200 printer is USB
enabled. The messages from both QTR (working without QTRGui) and
from QTRGui would indicate that everything is fine until it tries to
send to the printer...then it fails to find the printer.

I have searched the archives but can't seem to locate an appropriate
message covering this issue.

Thanks for your help,

Fred

I received a similar message when I tried to print a tiff file that wasn't
flattened.

Kent,

Thanks for the input. But my images are flattened. I'm stumped.

Hi Fred,

Not only must the grayscale TIFF file be flattened, but it must be
stripped of any alpha channels, such as saved selections (i.e. there
should be only one channel, the Gray channel), or the image will not
print properly.

Hi Bailey,

Thanks for the tip. I do only have one channel...the Gray channel.
I still suspect that I have somehow screwed up the loopback adapter.

Thanks again,

Fred

Flattened, yes. No extraneous channels, yes. Only one channel - that
beng the gray, no. At least not in the PC version. I send monotone
images in RGB format to QTR(Gui), and it works. In fact, if you print
from Qimage, this is guaranteed. I.e., even if you print a grayscale
image in Qimage, it sends an monotone image in RGB format to QTR(Gui),
and it prints just fine.

Are you sure that your firewall is turned off? That was the problem I
had when I first used QRT.

There was a message last summer that linked to an article in an .edu
site that I can't remember which had directions on setting-up the
loopback adaptor, but Yahoo won't let me search beyond the current
list of messages, so I can't find it. Maybe someone will remember it
and post it again. As I recall, that setup was critical to getting the
loopback to work.

In any event, go to Control Panel/Network Connections/Local Area
Connection (under "Network Bridge") and click on it's Properties.
Under the "Advanced" tab I have "Property: Medium" and "Value:
Ethernet". Also under Property is Network Address, but the Value for
that is blank.

Also, in the Driver tab, "Driver Details" the driver listed is "loop.sys".

I don't remember if that is all the setup required, but I hope it
helps and I also hope Yahoo responds to my inquiry about the Search
function failure.

Sorry to be late in responding. Been away.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to make any difference whether it is
on or off. Neither setting works. I'm tossing in the towel.
