2100 questions

2004-11-09 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
yesterday I installed a new Epson 2100.

I know that Epsons use ink for cleaning every time that you turn them on.

Is it ok to leave it turned on for long periods of time?

I've got a long learning curve with this printer - I can't work out why some prints work well and some are blue when printing is set to black.

I'll get there in the end. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks,
Rich

I also own a 2100. Yes you can leave it on. I would really suggest
investing the time to take a look at QTR as a first step - are you using the
original Epson inks? Here is the link for QTR:

New to the group....and been lurking and learning. Steve, thanks for
this tip. I just bought a new Epson 1280, getting ready to set it up
and wanted to do a fair amount of b&w printing.

My understanding is that QTR is fully compatible with Mac OS X Panther.
Is that correct?

(Yes, I did read the info on the site, but just wanted some confirmation
before I download and install it.)

I too have wondered about how best to minimise the number of cleaning
cycles my Epson 2100 does. I decided to leave it on to try and
minimise them. But I don't think that this has worked. If you
haven't printed for a while, but left it on, it will do a cleaning
cycle before it starts printing.

I wondered about unplugging it, but that would probably just guarantee
a cleaning cycle at each start-up, whereas is you turn it on and off,
it only does a cleaning cycle at some power-ups.

I'm not familiar with the 2100 specifically but when I asked Epson tech
support this question about my 1280 and 2200 on I was told that they should
always be turned off when not in use, that leaving them on all the time
causes the inks to dry up. Is it ok to leave it turned on for long periods
of time?

Yes it is. I use OS-X 10.3.6. There is also a Windoze version but there is
more functionality in the Mac version.

If you haven't printed for a while it is likely in need of a cleaning cycle
- let the machine operate as its engineers planned unless you have great
cause for bending it in a different direction.
