dark line printing with QTR

dark line printing with QTR

2005-01-12 by jimpegoda

I'm currently doing a lot of testing comparing the Roark workflow
with curves and QTR in terms of contrast, detail, dither patterns
and sharpness. I still have some testing to do before I come to any
conclusions but I'd be happy to hear if any of you have done similar
tests and what conclusions you might have come to.

One problem I've experienced with QTR is that when I print with the
page in Horizontal format I get a dark line across the bottom of my
image. I don't get this line when I print with the page set
vertically. The line doesn't exist in my image. I'm using UT2 inks
and the Epson 1280 printing at 1440 super. On another note, I tried
2880 and it radically stretched and distorted the image vertically
off the page. I guess 2880 isn't fully supported.

Again tonight I tried Paul's curves on Kirkland paper, with the same
ill-fated results. I must have a different driver (latest), or ink
batch (Nov 04), or printer firmware (who knows), than Paul. My
comparison to QTR is here:

In comparing EvenTone dither with Ordered, I found Ordered dither to
be slightly (but still visibly) darker, perhaps with more contrast. I
was not able to quantify the dot pattern differences.

Looking forward to your full report, Jim.
