Steve,

I think the purpose of the spiked wheels is to keep the paper flat so that
the print head maintains the correct distance from the paper. It would
bother the printer if the paper curled up and hit the printhead.

The wheels are not mechanically powered in any way. They simply roll over
the top of the
paper. As a result I am somewhat confidant their removal won't bother the
printer in any
way.

[Digital BW] Centered prints with the Epson driver - possible

2005-01-22 by José Miguel Ferreira

A while ago I whined about not being able to print perfectly centred prints
with Epson's driver on a 2100/2200 printer.

I thought choosing this option in Photoshop's "Print with preview" would be
enough, but the Epson driver (v. 5.50 on XP) seems to manage all the
printing parameters besides colour management...

In paper properties (in the Epson driver) there's an option under "Printable
area" where it's possible to choose "Centred" (although it's written
"Centered" - the driver indicates Epson 2100, so I guess it's supposed to be
the English version) ;-)

Anyway, it works. Hope this helps anyone...

José

I thought of that but having read about what various ink suppliers had said
about them I do believe they are rather useless and they are a nightmare for
glossy prints.

I will keep people posted of any problems.

Steve,

Well, I've had an EX, 1270, 1290, 2100, and R800, and never felt the need to
remove them. Yes, you can see marks on dark areas with a lens, but no-one
has ever commented on them with normal viewing. And that is using Premium
Glossy a lot of the time. But then, I use Epson inks which dry quickly and
mostly avoid the problem. If you use other inks that don't dry so quickly,
then you may have a problem.
