chips in an Epson 2200 specific to that color ?

2005-01-25 by evanj1969

are the chips in an Epson 2200 specific to that color or "slot" in
the printer.

if i had different inks (UT7, FSN) loaded in the "correct"
cartridges, could i take out what would be the "yellow" cart (that
has gray in it), and put in an Epson Light Magenta (or any color)
cart in the yellow position WITHOUT changing the chip?

would changing the chip to a "yellow" chip be REQUIRED?

The chips are specific to the slot.

What would the printer do if the wrong cart was installed? Would the
ink button/light go solid red?

The reason I'm asking is that I had either an incorrect or bad chip on a
new MIS C86 refillable clear M cartridge. Resetting the chip didn't
help. Didn't think of trying the cartridge in different slots until
after I swapped out the chip with a new one.

Yes, I think so. On the 2200 a light shows which cart is problematic.

On the C86 I think I've looked at the status monitor to see which cart was
the problem.
