I wish to buy a printer to dedicate to B&W - probably MIS quadtone inks. I started out looking for an 1160 but haven't found one at reasonable cost, so now I'm looking at 1270 - my question is: what quality sacrifice do I make by getting a 1270 rather than the newer 1280 ? thank you, frank http://www.frankgross.com/

At face value, there really isn't much difference btw the two. The 2880 dpi setting on the 1280 is really more for glossy media, not so much for matte surfaces. BUT, if you plan on using the MIS VM inks, you'll need to get the 1280 ..unless you want to help Paul develop curves for the 1270(or wait for them). I have both, 1270 for color, 1280 for B&W(w/MIS VM). I consider them identical for my purposes. ..on the other hand, if you want to use the MIS Full Spectrum inks with a Piezo driver, I believe you can use the 1270. Can anyone verify this? good luck, daniel perez --- "fh.g" <fh.gross@...> wrote: > I wish to buy a printer to dedicate to B&W - > probably MIS quadtone inks. > I started out looking for an 1160 but haven't found > one at reasonable cost, > so now I'm looking at 1270 - my question is: what > quality sacrifice do I > make by getting a 1270 rather than the newer 1280 ? > thank you, > frank > http://www.frankgross.com/ > > > > > ------------------------ Yahoo! Daniel- You really have my attention... I love the Piezo driver... it prints more than twice as fast on my 1160... But I'm getting very tired of the Piezo ink clogs... Do you know where to get info on using these drivers with any other inks??? Thanks, tom --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@y..., Daniel Perez <tronicart@y...> wrote:

I don't believe the 1270 is currently supported by the Piezo driver... but perhaps I am behind the times? Nij > -----Original Message----- > From: tomoc@... You're right, 1270 isn't supported, but it's my impression that the MIS FS inks + Piezo driver can be used with any printer Piezo currently supports.. 750, 760, 800, 850, 860, 980, 1160, 1200, 1280, 1520, 3000, 7000. Only heard of this combo w/ the 1160, though. Anyone tried this with a 1280 yet? >Do you know where to get >info on using these >drivers with any other inks??? -don't know of any resource other than the experiences of the few that are trying it out. -daniel --- Nij <nigel@...> wrote: > I don't believe the 1270 is currently supported by > the Piezo driver... but > perhaps I am behind the times? > > Nij > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: tomoc@...
