Pictorico Photo Glossy Long Roll Replacement?

Pictorico Photo Glossy Long Roll Replacement?

2005-01-29 by tariqgibranstudio

A few years ago when I first started using an Epson 2200, I did a test
of various Glossy papers and found that Pictorico Photo Glossy(not the
more expensive Gallery) gave the least amount of Matermerism AND also
gave me the closes thing to what I get from my air dried Glossy Fiber
B&W prints. I now use an Epson 9600 and, as far as I can tell,
Pictorico Glossy is not available in long roll sizes. Can anyone on
the list suggest either an exact replacement or the closest thing they
have discovered to Pictorico glossy which is available in Long
Rolls(44", 36"). Thanks and I very much enjoy the list - very kind,
helpful and knowledgeable members.

Tariq-

I totally agree with you about the Pictorico papers. I have contacted
them and they have no plans at this time to offer larger rolls, either.

I've heard that Lexjet semigloss is metamerism free and have ordered
some to try it. I've also order some of the glossy and semi gloss from
MOAB.

The Kodak glossy pro doesn't cut it.

I use Epson OEM UC ink and the best results for me right now are with
Epson Premium Glossy, but I still yearn for a smoother surface.

I'll send you an email if either of the two I've just ordered match
the Pictorico results.

cheers,

Tom O'Connell

Thanks for the reply Tom. I was afraid that might be the answear - no known
replacement. Really hard to believe. I'm looking forward to your results with the Lexjet
ande Moab.

Since posting this, I have really searhed out a replacement through various forums. I came
by a paper called PermaJet which looks suspiciously similar to Pictorico. Unfortunately, it
too does not appear to be available in rolls here in the states BUT is available in long rolls
in the UK. Finally, it looks like Lyson is making a Glossy paper in their Darkroom range
which is described as giving "the look and feel of a traditional fibre based Silver print" but
alas it is claimed as being a Dye ink media only. I'm also using Epson OEM UC and have
been extremly happy thus far. Currently using QTR for B&W.

Tariq,

I tried to contact you offline, but my message did not go through. If you
would like to try our glossy paper, I'd be happy to send you a sample. It
is available in 44" rolls.
