Antonio- Have you had any issues with the Lyon ink cartridges? Bill Kennedy Associate Professor of Photocommunications St. Edward's University 512/448-8680 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Antonio, I have been using the Lyson Quad with an S9000, not exactly the same printer, but 6 color and probably uses very similar drivers. I get decent prints, although I have recently moved to Espon with MIS pigment inks and like the results much better so far. A few notes: I get acceptable images from the Lyson/Canon combo (albeit some magenta metamerism) using a PS CS workflow with Epson EEM paper. I have found that the Lyson ICC profiles are ok, but dont add too much. I also have found that adding +5 to the 'Intensity' setting in the print driver gives richer print results. I've also had lousy results printing on Photo rag, William Turner and Entrada. Flat. No punch. I think it has to do with the *amount* of ink being used. Turning up the *intensity* on all color sliders helps. Can you provide more detail regarding your workflow, your exact print driver setting, paper, etc. And, of course, Bill has an excellent point bwlow in regards to double checking that the cartridges are working. Did you do a printer pattern test to make sure all cartridges are flowing? Howard --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, BKPhoto@a... wrote:

i was using lyson quads on an epson 1200, and was able to get decent prints, on matte paper only. Even then, it was trial and error. The lyson profiles were so far off that it was amazing. I went thru about 3 sets of inks, before i got them to print well. Then, the prints had a bit of greenish tint, which on some papers was real bad. As I recall, crane museo ended up being about the best. EEM I could never get to work. Blotchy, posterized etc..... museo has a warm color that neutralized the inks. Those museo prints are about as good as I get on my 1280 with UT2 inks, except the tone of the UT2 is controllable. Ilford classic pearl was good except that it was really green. All glossy papers were terrible, and i tried everything out there. ( i think). Bottom line is, experiment experiment experiment. Also, if you are using a mac, dont use the gimp driver. It might be better to get a 60 dollar epson C86, and use MIS EZ's. Then you could tap into the knowledge on Mr. Roarks website. That would probably cost the same as three sets of lyson carts! something to think about, if you can deal letter size as the Maximum size. good luck and hang in there, making one little adjustment at a time...Doug M

You are never going to eliminate the metamerism with the Lyson quads or even their small gamut set that is a little better. They are reddish under tungsten and greenish under daylight. Move on to carbon pigment and you will be pleasantly surprised at the difference. John

John, to your knowledge, what carbon pigment inks are available for my Canon i965 printer? Although digital B&W printing appears to be only Epson, tha Canon i965 should be a nice alternative, given its 2880 resolution, 2 pico-liters drops and the 6 separate cartridges.
