BW printing and hair loss

BW printing and hair loss

2005-02-05 by andywebsterus

What little hair I have remaining is being rapidly depleted by BW
print frustration and I wonder if there is a remedy... perhaps if I
could get answers to these questions??

At the moment I am using an Epson R200 (same as R300) and Ilford
Gallerie smooth pearl (because I have a lot of it) with Epson OEM
inks.

I want to print toned b/w prints, warm grey or selenium like in
appearance. Is it possible to do this with Epson OEM inks? On the
R200? Without a random assortment of casts and shadow hues making an
unwelcome appearance....

If, as I suspect, I will be steered towards QTR RIP will I need to
change printers? If so to what - A4 only please, and 'cheap on ebay'!

Thanks,
 Andy

Andy,

IJC/OPM now supports the R200 and will give you what you are asking
for using the Epson UC inks. Their website has not yet been updated
to show R200 support, but the latest release for Windows, v1.0.3,
does support this printer.

Unless you are happy with BO printing (black only, using just the
black cartridge on your UC inkset) you will have a hard time getting
good prints without a dedicated B&W program (like IJC/OPM, QTR, or
ImagePrint). The Epson driver doesn't do a good job with the
standard inkset when outputting B&W. The other alternative is to buy
a quad inkset and use it with Paul Roark's curves, if the R200 is
supported.

I have a R200 and (OEM)it's dye inkset not UC inks.

It's interesting to know with IJC/OPM and R200, I can now do B&W.

Oops, didn't know the R200 was dye. The R800 uses pigment inks.

Either way, IJC/OPM can handle any inkset you can install in your
printer, or a hodgepodge of different inks, as long as they are
compatible with one another.
