1280 / horizontal lines

1280 / horizontal lines

2005-02-14 by zonepeter

Hello,
I am experiencing thin horizontal lines on my prints. They are
horizontal relative to the paper, regardless of the orientation of
the print (lanscape or portrait). This has appeared on occasion in
the past, but always resloved itslef after a few test prints. The
lines frequently extend beyond the margin of the print.
All nozzle checks, alignments, etc are good. These are printed
lines, not banding. I am using UT2, but did see some lines like
these recently when I had OEM inks in trying to clear a clog from
hell.
I seem to recall reading that lines like this can be due to the
failure of one of the boards and is the end of the line for the
printer (ug!) Does this sound like that problem. Any hope??
(on to a 4000?)
Thanks to all.

You mean a thin continous line in the direction of the print head like
one nozzle was firing? After I wore out my first 1280, the second one
started doing this. It was diagnosed on-line by others as the bad
circuit board. I think the lines extending outside the print area is
the key indicator. Epson did a warranty replacement for mine.

Sorry I can't offer any hope if it's out of warranty.

Bob,
Yes, those are the lines I am seeing. Thanks for confirming what I
thought. Have to dig out the warranty and see what I bought.
Thanks for the response. It is just good to know.

Re: 1280 / horizontal lines

Peter: If you think your purchase date is anywhere close to being in
the last year, call Epson with the serial number (assuming you
registered it) and ask them if it's eligible for a warranty
replacement. I've heard tales of printers being a bit over a year old
that Epson decided to replace under warranty.

And, Epson initially swore that I had a Photoshop problem and that it
wasn't the printer. After customer support initially refused a
warranty replacement, I spoke with customer service who did (or maybe
it was the other way around). Anyway it was someone in Long Beach CA
that finally agreed to a warranty swap.

Good luck.

I forgot. Epson support will ask you if you are using genuine Epson
inks. Learn to set aside all you inherent honesty and say "yes, I am
using genuine Epson ink". Epson service will accept no other answer.
Until you tell this white lie, they will go no further. I was finally
"coached" into realizing I had to say yes by the customer rep in Long
Beach who agreed to a warranty replacement.

He's right, always say that. And also tell them you only use Epson media, nothing exotic
that would give them an excuse to blow you off - only consumables made by them,
especially the inkset.

Thanks, Bob and John. The printer is almsot 3 years old. I know I
bought an extended warranty, but I think it is from Comp USA. Can't
remember how long it runs for. Have to find it when I get home.
Thanks for the advise on dealing with tech support. Is frustrating
to have this happen when there are such exciting developments with
the technology.
