Printing stopped in QTR

Printing stopped in QTR

2005-03-03 by Diane Fields

I have been following QTR for a bit by reading here and recently
getting the digest. I decided to try it today. I'm using a
2200/Windows/XP Pro.

I installed without a hitch, prepared my image in PSCS as 8 bit
grayscale tiff according to help. I printed 5 images (the same one
but loading each separately) with 5 different profiles and was trying
to print the 6th when the glitch occurred. The printer pulls in the
paper (EEM), does one pass and then spits it out.

I uninstalled, restarted, reinstalled--strange thing though is that
the settings remained the same in the new install--same
profiles/blend, etc. It will not print. My printer shows that it
is 'ready'--don't have a clue. I tried the debug and get the 3
wndows that say Image to Print.exe, Quad to Printer.exe, and
RAWprint.exe---and it rolls the paper through again. I turned off
debugging and get the same result.

Until I can solve this problem, I can't go further with it--and I had
just downloaded the grayspace zip plus instructions for use that I
found (Lou's).

Hopefully someone will have a fix for this.

I brought the spool monitor up and what I saw as I hit print on QTR
is that the image loaded--and immediately disappeared from the queue.
That intrigued me--I wondered if I couldn't print in anything. I
setup a print (same one, but in my 'toned' version that I usually
print to minimize monochrome problems with the 2200)and am now
printing from PSCS with paper profile without any problems
whatsoever, so its obviously a QTR thing--but I don't know what to
try to fix this.

Thanks for any help.

Diane,
I wish I could help, but alas... What you¹ve experienced on you 6th try is
what I am still going through although my nightmare deepens daily. I won¹t
bore you but. If what I¹m doing now works (total reformatting HD in
Panther) then it¹s a problem related some how to Jaguar. I¹ll let you know
if you¹re interested.

Hi Diane,

In an earlier post you mentioned that even after you uninstalled, then
reinstalled, the last settings were still remembered. Do you want to
try one more thing?

Uninstall. Then navigate to the Program Files directory and rename
QuadtoneRIP directory to something else, and reinstall (maybe just
delete the file QuadtoneRIP/bin/QTRgui.ini is sufficient, but to play
it safe just rename the whole thing).

In earlier versions of QTR, especially QTRGui, I had to do the same
thing to get it to work as the newer version was expected to. I hope
that this will work for you but if it it doesn't ... I have no other idea.

Ah, thanks Nick. If my NEW reinstall fails, I'll try this.

This is what I did--I uninstalled, went to Programs and deleted the log and the bin folder (after I looked at the log which recorded a long string of GIMP at the end). Then I rebooted, downloaded a new copy of the app and installed. So far, so good. I've printed 2 so far.

Now--I'm having trouble getting a print with just a hint of 'warm' to it--

Thanks for the reply. I've archived the information in case I need it.
