2200 Mk to PK switch

2200 Mk to PK switch

2005-05-02 by krn_ptr

I'd like to thank Steve Kale for helping me figure out how to switch back and
forth between MK and PK without going through the Epson dance. I haven't
been on line for quite a while, but now I'm printing again and his method
worked for me.

Was this advice offered on this list? Is it help on how to avoid
losing so much ink in switching? In any case I couldn't find it.
Could you give a reference?

I would like to be grateful to Steve, too.

No with a Mac there wasn't an easy way to switch inks and still be able to
print - people got "jobs stopped". The workaround was to install the
printer twice labelling it in the first instance with something to denote,
say, MK and then in the second instance PK. You then afford having to
delete and re-add the printer all the time.

Here is teh workaround in OS X.

With one Black ink working in the 2200 name that setup appropriately... if Photo Black is in
there call it "Glossy Black 2200".

To change printer name use the Printer Setup Utility, highlight printer name and use key
combo Command i. Rename in field.

Then switch to Matte Black and do what ever you have to do to get the 2200 to read the
Matte Black....such as turn printer off and/or restart computer. But don't delete the newly
named "Glossy Black 2200"

When the matte black is recognized name that ink combo "Matte Black 2200".

You can swtich back and forth between black inks...just change carts and choose
appropriate printer in the Epson Driver.

HI Bailey,

Yes it was on this list. I can't find it by searching either. However, John
Vitollo has posted the method I used -- the one I got from Steve Kale.

Here's a tip to save ink that I discovered almost by accident. Immediately after
changing cartridges, instead of pressing the ink button, I shut off the printer
with the power switch just for about a second or two and immediately power it
on again. All the lights come on briefly, and then go off. The printer is ready
to print without doing a cleaning cycle. So far, it hasn't damaged the printer
and, surprisingly, the nozzle checks always seem to be fine on the first or
second try.

2200 Mk to PK switch

2005-05-02 by Jack Winberg

On bent knee, I beg you to post this switching solution again! I have
become so wary of attempting that switch that I now limit my printing to
Matte paper with MK. I would LOVE to have a choice, but it is SUCH a struggle.

PLEASE share!

Thanks..... Jack Winberg

Hello Jack,

I found the original posts from Steve Kale:

The only issue re swapping ink

2200 Mk to PK switch

2005-05-03 by Jack Winberg

Hi Peter:

Thanks so much for this response, much appreciated.

I'm on a Windows platform and wonder if the same general "multiple printer
installation" is applicable. I have a TERRIBLE time switching black ink
types., have tried a number of strategies, all unsuccessful.

Glad I could help, although, not knowing much about Windows, I don't know if
it will work.

Good luck,

peter
