I'm getting ready to purchase UT7 inks for my Epson 4000, but don't want to buy any more cartrides than is necessary. If I only want to print neutral to slightly warm are there any inks that I can leave out of the UT7 set? I can do my own profiling with IJC/OPM or QTR if necessary. Thanks, Jason

Yes, it is possible, but keep in mind that you will only save a bit on the initial investment. Over time the same amount of ink will be used, it will just be different ink. But there are still some good reasons to do it. The article at this link explains why and how http://www.cjcom.net/articles/digiprn8.htm Regards, Clayton Info on black and white digital printing at http://www.cjcom.net/digiprnarts.htm

You won't need the sepia toner in the yellow cart. For that matter, if you use IJC, you don't need the LK. I have UT-FS-Y in the LK position of my 7600 to get the ultimate in smooth highlights, but most will not see any difference with most papers and at normal viewing distance. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

I'm looking forward, Clayton, to the follow-up on your article. My preference -- and I think many may follow this route -- is to let the paper I'm using "tone" the print rather than us toners directly. Ideally, I'd like to use an inkset that is neutral, fade-resistant, that prints with good midtone separation and smooth (relatively) dotless highlights. I've been reasonably happy with the results on my 2200 using the UC inkset and QTR, but I can see room for improvement in smoothness and dot reduction in highlights. I'll be reading your next installment on UTx3. Chris Hargens --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Clayton Jones" <cj@c...> wrote:
