Is anyone using the K7 now who has used carbon inksets in the past?
What do ya think, dmax ok?

John,

Neutral K7 is a carbon inket. Its a mixture of carbon based pigments which have been
formulated to be neutral when used on a very popular shade of white fine art inkjet paper.
The dMax is controlled by the Black position. Our intention with the black position was a
pure pigment black similar to the Museum Black in the PiezoTone inksets. It is possible to
substitute another black for greater dMax if you choose. Piezography Portfolio Black would
give nearly 2/3 a stop. However, there is a control in QuadTone RIP which allows for
greater black density and we found the K7 pure pigment black to be nearly as dense when
printed as the Portfolio Black is with PiezographyBW ICC and iQuads.

I am certain that users can give their impression of density. But I wanted to correct what I
interpreted as your understanding that K7 was not based on carbon.

regards,

Jon Cone

Have you been able to get rid of the color pigments entirely in the mix?

Hi Jon,

Oh no. I surely knew the K7 were carbon and know your high standards
and how long you have been working to achieve this. I was just asking
if anyone who is using other carbon inksets (such as piezzotone
selenium tone, etc) had an opinion on the way the dmax looked with
this new inkset. You just answered my question. It should be at least
as deep as Selenium Tone Quads, which is fine to me. I guess my
concern was if I eliminate one of the dark greys to fit into a 7000 if
I would loose any of that dmax. Probably not, especially with the rips
abilty to assign ink limits.

Thanks for the comments,

John

Some of the PiezoTone inks used color pigments mixed with carbon pigments.

In any event - drop shade #4 from the Neutral K7 set to make a Neutral K6 set. That is the
shade to lose, rather than the darkest ones. The K6 Universal carts for the EPSON 7000,
7500, 9000 & 9500 should be in InkjetMall in about 2 weeks. 4oz bottles go on sale this
week. 16oz bottles should follow in about 10 days.

Thanks Jon,

When I return from vacation I'll be doing just that in one of my
machines. Glad to hear you will be putting them in carts for that
purpose!

Jon

What is the control in QTR that allows for greater black density?
