CIS ink supply readout problem

CIS ink supply readout problem

2001-12-25 by sunshine_1451

I'm using a MIS VM CIS on and 1160. I installed the system with no
problems and having been getting the hang of printing. There is still
a great deal of ink in the bottle -- almost full -- and the connect
tubes seem to be full also. However, I'm getting a message from my
printer software that I am running out of ink, but only the color
inks. Is this a hardware problem -- in other words, could I be having
problems getting ink to the cartridges? If so, how can I safely
verify that this is the case? Or is this a software problem related
to the CIS being misread by the printer? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

The CIS is not "misread" by the printer - your 1160 still thinks you are
using carts, & will continue to guess when it is time to change them, even
though you are not running out of ink. Read the section in your CIS manual
on resetting the switches - you raise & lower the sponges to fool the
printer into "thinking" you changed the carts.

Happy printing

Happy Christmas, all.

Chris, your printer has no idea that you've got is on a CIS feed, it
still thinks that it has carts, has counted up the number of droplets
you've printed, and thinks you're about to run out of something.
Press the cart change button, remove and replace the foam block or
whatever that is towards the front of the printer from the cart to
press down the switch, then put it back in.

I have seen it recommended to pull and replace both at the same time,
because there is a cleaning cycle for every "replacement" of a cart.
Doing both will minimise the number of cleanings and the wasted ink.

Thanks for the advice. It worked. After I adjusted the sponge insert,
the printer software immediately told me the carts were full.
