Problem installing R2400 drivers

Problem installing R2400 drivers

2005-11-04 by roleiman

Friends, I have run into a dead end while trying to install the
drivers for my R2400 with the provided install disc. It gets through
the first few windows until the image that instructs you to hook to
printer to the computer. When I do this, I get a message: "Files
Needed The file epppdtmn.sys on Epson 1394.3 printer Install Disk One
is needed." When I browse for that file, it is not in the folder. I
eventually get a message from Windows indicating that there is a
problem with the installation and that the device may not work. At the
end of the process I installed the Epson Guide, but none of the
drivers. I have tried the install several times with the same outcome.
I then downloaded the drivers from Epson with the same result. I have
been using the firewire connection but will try the USB when I get
home. Is it possible that the problem is with Windows? Suggestions?
Thanks.

Open the disk and extract the files in the cab
folders. I had exactly the same problem and it was the
installer being unable to open the cab files.

Re: Problem installing R2400 drivers

If the other suggestions don't help, you might try what I was told to
do by the Epson tech. I was haveing a problem with a different file
that you are, but it may well be the same fix. The faq explaines how
to do it; here's the link. I had been pulling my hair out for several
hours and it took the tech a hour to get to this point. Ultimately,
the fix was so simple.

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=FAQ&oid=54861&prodoid=53540920&foid=61082

I'm not sure if Yahoo will like such a long url, so if it doesn't work
go to the Epson.com support page, find the page for the R2400, select
"Top Faqs For This Product" and click on faq #9.

Good luck,

Charlie

Woody, I found the files on the disk but was unable to extract them
in a way where I could access them in the error window. Tried
copying a pasting from the disc to a new folder but that did not
work. Sorry to be a dunce, but can you give me the dummies steps to
extract the files. By the way, I spent an hour on the phone with
Epson "support" only to be told that they have never heard of such
an issue, and further, that it had to be a system error on my
computer. If this does not do it, it is back to my 2200 and other
B&W options. Thanks again.

Charlie, you may have the solution. The error message you got is the
same one I did when I tried installing with the USB after getting
the other error messge with the Firewire. You know, I spent an hour
on the phone with Epson "support," specifically with a tech who had
never heard of this problem and ascribed it to a failure in my OS.
Wish I got your person. I am going to give your suggestion a try and
will let you know. Thanks again.

Charlie, I owe you, bud. I deleted the TempDriver file and
reinstalled with the disc. No error message this time. Program shows
2400 as installed. Brought up the printer driver in CS2 and there
she is, in living B&W. Between the two of us, we may have one full
head of hair left. I am obliged to you, and to all the others on
this forum for their gracious assistance.
Best,

Roleiman, glad it worked. The 2400 is a fantastic printer.
